Analyzing Psychological Disorders 2 Analyzing Psychological Disorders This paper will address the two parts of an interview process. Part A where I will discuss the process of analyzing the psychiatric disease schizophrenia, point out the portions of the brain that are affected and delve into the neural bias, symptoms, causes and drug therapies. In part B, I will be discussing the cases of anorexia as well as drug abuse. This portion of my paper will be used to delve into the disorders themselves from the perspective of a biophychologist, address the issues relation to the nurture v nature theory, discuss helpful drug therapies, solutions and point out positive and or negative aspects of certain drug therapies. Part A, Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is in a class of mental disorders where distortion of a person’s reality happens; it can also be known to have symptomology of thought disturbance, emotions perceptions and language. This psychiatric disorder is known to be a disorder of madness, according to the National Institute of Mental health this disorder “affects about 1.1 percent of the U.S. population” (National Institute of Mental Health, 2008) with an onset between the ages of 18-30. The person’s ethnicity, upbringing, community involvement and culture have no bearing on this disorder. This disorder not only affects a patient’s life but also can negatively affect anyone that is involved in the person’s life. Because of the way this disorder affects the persons social and family circle, it can eventually impair a person’s social cognition and social functioning. Because this disorder is yet to be fully understood, a diagnosis and following treatment can be difficult.
